many high ranking people, and the building now in use was built
in 1880.
The second building at the sea cost is the
Bulgarian Church. Its actual name is St. Stephan Church, and it
was built in 1896. The main aspect of the church is that it was
built with the plates of cast iron which had been prepared in
Austria and transferred through the Danube and the Black Sea to
Istanbul.
Finally, the Fener Greek Patriarchate, which
is in the first street parallel to the sea cost, is one of the
most significant buildings by the Golden Horn. The Fener Greek
Patriarchy moved to the present building in 1602. Next to it is
the Georgios Church, which was built in 1720. Some of the holy
remnants of the Christians, the burials of the female saints,
the throne of the Patriarchy and valuable icons are kept here.
In the district of Cibali, which is the last
district before the district of Unkapani, is the Hagia Theodosia
Church, which dates back to the 9th century and which was
converted into a mosque in the 16th century and named as the
Giil Mosque. |
