The gate near the mosque is known as 'Edirnekapi',
as the travelers going to Edirne, during the Ottoman period,
left from this gate. Going downhill at the interior of the city
walls towards the Golden Horn, you would come across some
Byzantine ruins. First of the ruins is the TEKFUR PALACE,
attracting attention with its different masonry. This palace is
the only remaining section of the Blacherna Palace, which was
built between 11th - 14th centuries. The building was used for
tile manufacturing during the 18th century. Strolling through
the ruins of palaces and dungeons, one gets to the Golden Horn. |
